SCCA Fun
So on a lighter note....
One of my big time interests are cars. Even more, racing. While not everyone may know it, there are ways for the average car consumer to take their cars out on a track and test the limits. Really, there are two ways to take your dealer bought car out on a track: autocrossing and tracking.
SCCA is a racing organization that sponsors autocrossing. Autocrossing is basically racing around cones in a parking lot against time. The fastest time around the cones wins. Max speed typically is 60-80mph and since its' relatively low speed, it's very safe. Still requires a helmet though. Here's some pics:
Here are some of my Audi friends taking in the scenery:
Here is an amazing Porsche GT2 (like 175k dollars and wicked fast) that someone was waiting to run on the track:
Here's another Audi friend Dave trying to figure out if he can jack the car somehow with noone noticing:
And here's the Audi lineup (this type of picture is required at all Audi events):
The other type of racing is Tracking. This is where you get to take yoru car out on famous tracks like Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Sears point. You pay an annual fee to join the club and then a track fee on the day you participate. You get to go around the whole track at very high speeds (100-150mph) but it is generally very safe as you are divided into slow, medium, and fast groups. Very little accidents occur and it is very fun, but a little more abusive to the cars' brakes and tires. Still very fun.
Either way, I plan to be doing both in the future. Much safer than driving fast on public roads in my opinion.
